Manager Ian Holloway would’ve been pleased with the step in quality that Stevenage proved to be compared to our run out against Dartford earlier in the week, as we continue our pre season preparations for the coming year.

League Two Stevenage, relegated last season from League One, certainly proved to be tough opposition and they pushed us all the way in a more competitive game which really would’ve pushed the players physically.

Holloway again took the opportunity to shuffle the pack, giving each of the players in the squad a 45 minute run out, and the first half included a starting debut for youngster Sid Nelson who partnered Alan Dunne in the centre of defence, and the gaffer also gave a run out to trialist Matthew Briggs.

Millwall took the lead after eight minutes after Lee Martin battled his way through the defence and fed Scott McDonald who cut the ball back for Nicky Bailey to slot the ball in at the far post. That was the scoring done for the first period, but Millwall almost made it two shortly after the restart with our fresh eleven, when Martyn Woolford set up Jermaine Easter, but the Stevenage held the ball at the second attempt.

That sparked a response from Stevenage though who levelled the scored after 47 minutes and our hosts could’ve taken the lead four minutes later but Stephen Bywater came to our rescue. However just after he was picking the ball out of the net following a free kick that bobbled it’s way over the line.

John Marquis almost levelled for us on 56 but the goal was ruled out for an offside and then Easter had a fantastic opportunity but put his effort wide. Making up for that though, Easter scored two minutes later from the penalty spot after Fred Onyedinma had been brought down.

Marquis was then denied a goal by the woodwork two minutes from time, and had that gone in we’d have no doubt come out with the victory.
