Silverlion’s match report on Millwall 1 Leicester City 3
An honest and hard working performance where the ref played a significant part in all three of their goals.
We began with some intent but got unlucky after 5 minutes. Lowry came away with the ball from defence, slightly overran it and was pushed off the ball. The ref played on, their bloke got it and hit a sweet shot from 25 yards into the far corner with Fordey well beaten.
They played some slick passing
football but with little end product. we had a more direct approach and had 5 good shots in the first half. The best two were saved or beaten away by Schmeicel and MacDonald hit a sweet curler which just went the wrong side of the post.
We came out full of intent in the second half but went two down within a couple of minutes. Their bloke got put through and looked offside from where I sat in the lower west. The ref played on, he knocked it across goal and Nugent nodded it in. We were up against it but pressed forward. Martin came on to replace a less than effective Woolford and Jack Smith came on to replace a crocked Malone.
We pressed forward well with MacDonald looking tricky and Martin looking dangerous. From a Martin cross the ball fell to Chaplow and he knocked it in. They were rocking. They took Nugent off and played 5 across the middle but we came forward in waves. From a Morison knock on Easter chipped it to the back row of the lower Cold Blow and MacDonald hit a fierce shot over the bar when a gentle chip would have hit the target. We continued to press into 6 added minutes and Martin was sent flying on the edge of their box. The ref played on, their bloke ran free with one on one with Fordey and slotted it home. They went nuts, we went nuts with the ref along with Chopper on the line.
It was definitely a game we deserved to get something out of. The midfield was firing and Bailey was my MOM. He was everywhere and never gave up at any time. The back four were solid and Forde couldn’t have done more. Sadly, the same couldn’t be said for Morison who was peripheral.
The ref was poor. I can take it if he gives poor decisions to both sides but he let strong challenges go and weak ones he blew up for.
All in all it was a much better performance than the one against Middlesborough but that was player power coming into play. With a little more luck going forward we could have secured a point today but it is never easy playing against twelve men.
