Ian Holloway is ready to accept the challenge of leading Millwall back to the Championship.

Former QPR manager Holloway has been interviewed by new chairman Stewart Till and admits he would love to take the job.

Till has been speaking to several candidates to succeed David Tuttle including Peter Reid, Stan Ternant, Ray Lewington and Paul Hart.

Holloway, who has also spoken to Stoke about their vacant manager’s position, has been on ‘gardening leave’ since being dismissed by QPR earlier this season.

He is keen to get back into the game and insists Millwall would be the perfect opportunity.

Holloway told the Bromley Times: ‘I had an interview with them last week and I was very impressed.

‘I was there for two and a half hours and they were nice people. The new chairman seems a good bloke.

‘It is the responsibility of the board and whoever they choose as manager to get things moving forward because it is a big job.

‘But I’m looking forward to getting back into the game, this gardening leave is bad for your health.’

Meanwhile, Millwall are expected to sign former Tooting and Mitcham striker Gavin Grant after he was releaed by Gillingham.

VITALVIEW

Holloway would be an ideal candidate to put the club back on an even keel after relegation.

He knows all about League One from his time a Bristol Rovers and he’s also proved he can get a team out of it with QPR.

If he is the board’s number one choice there is still the issue of matching his wage demands, which are believed to be fairly substantial.

But if the club are serious about getting out of this division they could do a lot worse than appoint Holloway.
